People without a job: The thin line between vagrancy and homicide in Querétaro (1828-1830)

Abstract

This article studies the socio-cultural environment in wich the crime of homicide was committed in the city of Queretaro between 1828 and 1830. This research has the purpose of analyzing the causes of the felony, the action of the justice administration, the nature of the punishment and the relationship with the vagrancy. The study of the homicide opens a wide perspective about elements of the common life and traditions of the people who lives in this city in a political transition, as well as the way in wich popular sectors were viewed from the criminal justice system and the punishment recived.
