Abstract

In contrast to the Entre Ríos press’ local spread following 1871, during the governments of General Urquiza, Entre Ríos journalism reached national circulation, experiencing a rapid expansion and becoming the second province with the most newspapers. This work reviews this journalistic genesis and explores the implications of three of its characteristics, not yet fully developed by the state of the art: 1) the state nature of its initial development and its sui generis transition towards journalism in private hands, which framed their predominant discourses, decision processes and rules of the game; 2) the subordination of the editors to the provincial political-military command; 3) the use of changing newspaper names as part of the centralized strategy of political-military use of the press.
