Abstract

The main objective of this paper is to analyze the performance of the Andean montoneras that in 1812 managed to install a governing board in Huánuco, considering that the use of violent actions in their rebellion had a symbolic role derived from a ritual rationality, especially expressed through the looting, so that they not only meant disorder and barbarism. Thanks to this approach, it has been possible to observe the active participation and indigenous leadership during the independence process in its regional phase and towards the construction of the new States, going beyond the role played by the criollo armies.
