Abstract

The Phenomenology of the Spirit has been the target of many controversies: from those who think that it is the work par excellence of Hegel to whom they affirm that it is a hard-to-understand work.
The first approach is the respected opinion of Marx, who felt a deep admiration for that book and called it “the true birthplace and secret of Hegelian philosophy”. The second approach is Kaufmann
for whom phenomenology is an incongruous work.

Hegel, meanwhile, in the last years of his life, described the book as a journey of discovery and in the same prologue implies that it is the Odyssey of the universal spirit.
