Abstract

The article describes processes about social mobilization of Indigenous and African descent in the city of Cali towards democratic consolidation through political parties of ethnic orientation. the relationship between political parties and ethnic communities is exposed. In addition, some dynamics of ethnic political representation are analyzed from the local. The basic question has to do with how political candidates are related to the different conceptions of ethnic identity among the communities they represent. These conceptions could be an essentialist identity (observable in stereotypical
traits) or an instrumentalist identity (depending on the situation local politics).
