Abstract

This article brings a small clipping of my doctoral thesis that had investigated how the voice and subjectivity of the black subject are expressed, singularized and radicalized in of the Cuban poet Nancy Morejón's poetry. The investigation is based on the disciplinary field of Afro-Latin American Studies to which the starting point is the historical and the theoretical studies to remap the histories, strategies and struggles of the afrodescendents in the region from the South Atlantic slave trade to current identitary movements, with race as a key variable in the process of formation of Latin American nations. In this article, I analyze the work Madrigal for a black prince (2020), observing how the black voice and subjectivity were configured in the work of Nancy Morejón starting from the concept of Black Atlantic cultures based on the studies of Gilroy (2001) and Hall (2003) and I affirm that in the literature the voice of the black subject took the place of the lyrical subject to express a subjectivity and an experience black an essential component of Cuban cultural formation, aware that this social process was and still has deep tensions, which are expressed within the literary system. Through the Aesthetics of Güije that strengthens Morejón's work, we defend that her poetry constitutes a category of analysis of contemporary Cuban literature.
