Abstract

Luis Felipe Fabre is a contemporary Mexican poet and essayist in whose work male sexual diversity has an important source of expression—his autobiography, discussed here, is no exception. In it, a contradictory autobiographical self is constructed through the use of common stereotypes of Mexican gay culture (feminine adjectives and pronouns, kitsch culture and cultural references), as well as through the use of social values and attitudes that award social prestige to male heterosexuals. The result is a contradictory autobiography with many elements to analyse in the context of the representation of contemporary Mexican homosexualities.
