Abstract

The work describes the construction of the Caribbean exposed by Kamau Brathwaite´s “History of the voice” (1976) and “A dialogue. Nation language and poetics of creolization” (1991). It analyzes the keys of his cultural  theory as a germinal moment for a deep revision of Modernity and Eurocentrism. It also confronts Brathwaite´s perspective with the cultural matrix designed by Derek Walcott to recognize convergences and distances between both poetics in a foundational process of the Anglophone Caribbean Literature, which displays a deep trust in the culture of the region, the creation of a genuine language and a strong questioning of racism.   In the field of Caribbean studies, this work contributes to characterize relevant practices of cultural reclosing performed by some Anglophone Caribbean Literature´s founders.
