Abstract

Conceived in the black neighborhoods of Kingston and New York, Remix is prob- ably one of the most important cultural phenomena of recent decades, present in a considerable part of contemporary artistic practices. Historically and so- cially connected with some of the Afri- can-American traditions, it is a creative strategy that allows many marginal and emerging artists challenge the estab- lished cultural fences from traditional institutions of culture. Present today in different geographical and cultural con- texts, the genesis of Remix can be found in the migration dynamics and cultural exchanges that have characterized the cultural universe of the Greater Carib- bean.
