Abstract

The results of an experience of dissemination of the natural heritage of the urban area of Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico are presented through a web page, which aims to raise awareness about the relevance of natural heritage, socio-environmental problems, defense of the territory and river sanitation. The methodology was Participatory Action Research, based on the ethnographic method. People from academia and citizens who have worked in favor of this natural heritage elaborated communication materials on the historical, aesthetic and symbolic values present in the “Quetzalapan-Sedeño Linear Park”. Among the results is that the recording and systematization of citizen heritage processes is fundamental to design strategies for dissemination and heritage education, because they are the basis of the values communicated with the meaningful interpretation of heritage. The interaction between formal and non-formal learning processes should be designed with ICT mediation, since they function as an information and communication system that articulates diverse agents (academia and citizens). It is concluded that ICTs are part of learning strategies, but imply medium-term challenges in the design of reciprocal virtual and face-to-face learning scenarios, accompanied by qualitative and quantitative ICT impact measurements.
