Abstract

This article is the product of an investigation whose purpose was to respond to the concern of how literary texts enable the development of critical thinking in basic and secondary vocational students within the public and official sector schools in the Soledad municipality of Barranquilla. Methodologically, it was limited to a qualitative approach, from the Socio-Critical paradigm and the Action Research typology, executed at the Miguel A. Caro Educational Institution (INEM), in the Soledad municipality, using 30 students as a sample, with a representation of Language teachers, 6 parents, the coordinator of the institution and the head of this area. Among the data collection techniques and instruments, Observation was used, through a Protocol, a Reading Skills Test, a Critical Thinking Test, the Survey with a questionnaire for students and another for teachers, as well as the Interview. The results of the study synthesized the relevance of guiding linguistic and non-linguistic reading from within the family and in basic and secondary vocational study centers in order to encourage and develop the initial, intermediate and higher education of the student, personally, academic and professional
